Vinicius Junior's Real Madrid salary demands revealed Vinicius Junior is currently negotiating a new deal with Real Madrid The prolific forward's existing deal expires in 2027 Vinicius is reportedly pushing to become the best-paid player at the club

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior is thought to be asking for a wage increase which would see him boast the highest basic salary at the club, according to a report in Spain.

Vinicius is currently engaged in very public negotiations with Madrid about a new deal. The Brazilian, whose contract expires in 2027, has repeatedly stressed his desire to stay in the Spanish capital, but no agreement has yet been reached.

Madrid's first contract offer was rebuffed and it has now emerged that Vinicius is pushing for a €5m annual salary increase, according to Diario AS.

The 24-year-old's current deal is thought to earn him an average annual net salary of €15m - which equates to around £240,000 per week (after tax). A €20m yearly wage (£320,000 per week) would make Vinicius one of the best-paid players in European football.

Kylian Mbappe's basic salary is also thought to be €15m, but when the Frenchman joined Madrid on a free transfer last summer, he also reportedly earned a €40m bonus which will be spread across his five-year contract.

Vinicius has publicly insisted that he wants his renewal to be completed "as soon as possible". AS suggest that the Brazilian's future won't be finalised until after this summer's Club World Cup.

Saudi Arabia's lingering interest in Real Madrid's prolific forward adds an edge to any negotiations. The aggressively expansive division, whose clubs operate as a single organism in the transfer window under the stewardship of a Pro League sporting director, is willing to table a record-shattering €300m bid for Vinicius.

The winger would then be reportedly entitled to a net salary of €1bn over the course of a five-year contract - the equivalent of €200m each season, ten times what he is asking Madrid for.

Vinicius Junior has confirmed his desire to extend his contract with Real Madrid, stating that he wants to repay the faith shown in him by making history at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 24-year-old has been regularly linked with a world record move to the cash-rich Saudi Pro League, with Spanish media suggesting that the flying winger is prepared to listen to what is on offer.

A new contract proposal from Madrid has reportedly been rejected by Vinicius and his camp, prompting club chiefs to try to understand what it will take for the Brazilian to put pen to paper on a new deal.

It's thought Vinicius wants his deal to represent his standing not only at Madrid, but also as one of the world's best players. Speaking ahead of Tuesday night's crunch Champions League round of 16 first leg tie with neigbourhood rivals Atletico, Vinicius made it crystal clear that he wants to remain in the Spanish capital.

"I'm very calm, because I have a contract until 2027 and let's hope we can renew my contract as soon as possible," Vinicius told the pre-match news conference. "I'm happy here, playing with the best players in the world, the best coach [Carlo Ancelotti], the best president [Florentino Pérez], where everyone loves me. I couldn't be anywhere better than here.

"I'm here to make history, with everything this club has given me," he continued.

"Let's hope I can score more goals, play more games in this shirt. My dream as a kid was playing here. Now I'm here, I can win a lot more and go down in the history of this club, which is difficult with all the great legends who've played here.

Vinicius Jr reveals Real Madrid instruction to snub Ballon d'Or ceremony

One major talking point towards the end of 2024 was Vinicius being overlooked for the Ballon d'Or in favour of Rodri – a decision that prompted a boycott of the ceremony from every player and official associated with Real Madrid.

Vinicius bore the brunt of criticism for skipping the ceremony, but detailed that he'd simply followed the instructions of Madrid, who were put out by the decision not to reward his La Liga and Champions League winning exploits.

"I did what the club told me to do. The club asked me to stay in Madrid so I calmly stayed and now we wait for the next one," Vinicius said.

"I have never dreamt about winning the Ballon d'Or but, of course, once you are so close to win it, you want to win it," he added. "I am going to have many chances to win other awards and silverware with this club which is more important. I have won two Champions Leagues so far and I am here to win many more."

Vinicius Junior earned his 300th appearance for Real Madrid after being named in the starting lineup to face Real Betis on Saturday.

Los Blancos continue the defence of their La Liga crown against the Andalusian outfit having tasted victory over Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Wednesday.

While Carlo Ancelotti will undoubtedly have one eye on Tuesday's meeting with city rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, the veteran coach named a strong lineup to face Betis, with Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo and Antonio Rudiger all involved.

Vinicius was unsurprisingly named in the team to face former Madrid manager Manuel Pellegrini and his squad at Estadio Benito Villamarin, with the 24-year-old superstar racking up his 300th appearance for Los Blancos' senior side in the process.

The winger's previous 299 appearances have yielded an eye-catching tally of 102 goals and 69 assists - 28 of which have come this season - as he continues to write his name into Madrid legend.

Vinicius, who was named 2024 Ballon d'Or runner-up last October, has won a total of 14 trophies since arriving in the Spanish capital back in 2018, including three La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns.

There has been speculation regarding the South American's long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu amid Saudi Arabian interest in the fleet-footed forward, but he recently revealed he wishes to stay with Madrid until he can make at least his 500th appearance for the club.

After playing his first game as Madrid captain midweek, Vinicius claimed: "It's something different because you never imagine what's going to happen to you, and I'm happy to be able to enter [history] as captain of the best club in the world in the semi-finals of the cup.

"I'm living it. It's something I hadn't even dreamed of. In the next match the 300th appearance will come, but I already want the 400th and 500th and to make history at this club."

Karim Benzema teases return to Real Madrid

Ballon d'Or win in 2022 the individual highlight of remarkable spell in Madrid

Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema has hinted at a desire to return the club once he has brought down the curtain on an illustrious playing career.

Benzema is second on Madrid's list of all-time goalscorers, ahead of icons Raul and Alfredo Di Stefano, having netted 354 times across 14 years. He is also fifth on the club's all-time appearance list, playing 648 games between 2009 and 2023.

Madrid have welcomed former players back in a variety of off-field roles in the past, with 1980s stars Jorge Valdano and Emilio Butragueno among those to have had prominent executive positions. Raul has been in charge of Real Madrid Castilla since 2019, with Alvaro Arbeloa currently a youth coach. Santiago Solari had spells in charge of various sides up to first-team level, with Zinedine Zidane famously serving as an adviser before two spells as head coach.

Benzema admitted in a Mega interview that he doesn't know if coaching is the path he definitely wants to take, only that he wants to "close" to president Florentino Perez.

"The other day I was with Florentino in Madrid. When he signed me [in 2009], I told my father that as long as he was at Real Madrid, I would be there," the Frenchman explained.

"He was the first person I called when I decided I was leaving. He didn't quite understand...I told him that the youngsters, Vinicius and Rodrygo, were ready. When I retire, I want to be close to football. Coach? I don't know, it seems more complicated than being a player. I want to be close to Florentino."

Benzema, now 37, is currently in his second season with Saudi Pro League giants Al Ittihad.

"I feel good here," he said. "My life is like in Madrid. I get up, train at home in the gym and in the afternoon I train with the team. In the evening, I sometimes go out to dinner or to the beach. Here you can't walk down the street either, people are crazy about football."

Two familiar foes collide in the Champions League round of 16 as Real Madrid host the first leg of their tie with capital rivals Atletico.

The pair faced off only recently in a significant bout at the top of La Liga. Julian Alvarez handed Atleti a first half lead from the penalty spot before the red-hot Kylian Mbappe restored parity early in the second half. However, the Madrid rivals are currently trailing Barcelona in the title race.

Carlo Ancelotti's side overcame Manchester City to advance into the last 16 following an underwhelming league phase, while Atleti enjoyed a productive start to the competition and qualified for this phase automatically.

The visitors enter the first leg off the back of an important 1-0 home win over top four hopefuls Athletic Club, and they'll be looking to take advantage of a Madrid team that lost 2-1 away at Real Betis on Saturday. The hosts have won just one of their previous five La Liga games.

Real Madrid team news

Federico Valverde will be back on Tuesday night / Eurasia Sport Images/GettyImages

While Jude Bellingham is once again available for domestic selection after serving a two-game ban, the Englishman is suspended for Tuesday's first leg due to yellow card accumulation in this competition. Brahim Diaz will likely continue on the right side of midfield.

Federico Valverde has been dealing with a minor hamstring issue but is expected to return to Ancelotti's XI here, and he may well replace Lucas Vazquez at right-back.

Raul Asencio is set to replace David Alaba and partner Antonio Rudiger at centre-back, while Jesus Vallejo, Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal, and Dani Ceballos are all out of action.

Atletico's two injury concerns revolve around two veterans, Cesar Azpilicueta and stalwart midfielder Koke.

Neither player is expected to feature on Tuesday.

Julian Alvarez was the match-winner in La Liga at the weekend after appearing off the bench. He'll replace Alexander Sorloth in the starting XI at the Bernabeu. Jose Gimenez and Marcos Llorente should also come into Simeone's lineup.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid score prediction

Madrid rallied after falling behind in the recent head-to-head match-up, and while Ancelotti's side are doubtlessly fallible, we shouldn't read too much into their La Liga malaise. They always turn it on when it matters most in this competition, but they will miss the running power and box-crashing abilities of Bellingham on Tuesday night.

We know that the visitors will cede territory and control before springing in transition, and they should have success against a Madrid team with distinct structural issues without the ball.

However, given that this is a big European night at the Bernabeu, it's hard to look past the hosts heading into the second leg with an advantage.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-1 Atletico Madrid
